Mini Edible Green Wall

The Forest Discovery Centre is offering this amazing workshop as a follow on from our successful Succulent Frames Workshop held in July 2018. If you missed out on that, no problem, as this workshop is suitable for beginners as well. A 'Mini Edible Green Wall' is a wonderful way to get your plants off the ground and grow them vertically. They let you highlight your edible plants as an ever-changing work of art in the same way that you would display a framed picture inside your house. Having your own 'Mini Edible Green Wall' is an inexpensive way to add fresh herbs to your dishes. Herb plants are beautiful and smell incredible. Herbs are also really easy to grow and you don't even need a yard or patio. Combine carpentry and gardening skills to make this living work of art that is bound to cultivate the imagination. Construct the tray first and then attach a layer of chicken wire to help contain the garden bed. Add a decorative frame to really make a show of the garden. All materials provided. Frame is approx. 500mm x 500mm or variations thereof in Pine. Optional - Bring along your own decorative frame. Suitable for years 14+

Cost: $175 per person

British Invasion

Get ready for the best BRITISH INVASION of all time! There’s a new show on the road and if you are a fan of Bowie, Elton John or Rod Stewart you simply can’t miss it. This high quality tribute act utilising the phenomenal talents of the best performers in the business will be coming to a venue near you soon. Promising a once in a lifetime chance to see the superstars and legends of British rock perform not only all your favourite hits, but together, BRITISH INVASION will also feature a band worthy of such legends.

ROD STEWART performed by Rob Caudill: Rob Caudill has spent 15 years in Las Vegas performing his high energy, critically acclaimed, international tribute act. All his life people told him he looked and sounded like Rod so when it was suggested to him by Joe Walsh of The Eagles that he give it a shot, he did and has never looked back. Audiences believe its Rod on the stage with women screaming themselves hoarse in appreciation!
“…Robs voice and look is unbelievable. It is like looking at Rod Stewart himself” John Entwhistle of “The Who”.

DAVID BOWIE performed by Jeff Duff: Jeff Duff has performed Bowie in a number of hit shows such as Ziggy – The Songs of David Bowie, Bowie Unzipped and Ground Control to Frank Sinatra and never fails to delight Bowie fans. With an international career spanning decades, Duff is the obvious choice to play David Bowie – an androgynous, gender bending skinny white guy with a fabulous baritone and enormous talent. He’s been entertaining Australian audiences for decades since Kush in the 70s, the Jeff Duff Orchestra and now in his Bowie shows.
“Sinatra, Presley, Jagger, Popeye and now Duffo” – Andy Warhol

ELTON JOHN performed by Elton Jack AKA Lance Strauss: Elton Jack is the world’s best known Elton John Tribute act and has been wowing his audiences for more than 25 years in over 15 countries. Millions of people all around the world have been entranced by Elton Jack’s tribute to the music and lyrics of Elton John and Bernie Taupin and amazed at the uncanny resemblance. Lance himself is a very successful musical theatre performer whose appearance on Hey Hey It’s Saturday as Elton John started the ball rolling and Elton Jack was born.

B2M – MAMANTA

B2M (Bathurst to Melville) are a seven-piece Indigenous RnB band hailing from the Northern Territory’s Tiwi Islands, 80 kilometres north of Darwin where the Arafura Sea meets the Timor Sea. Formed in late December 2004, B2M are strong Tiwi men who write, sing and perform music that creates conversation across cultural, social and geographical boundaries.

Building on their international touring acclaim, in China, East Timor, Taiwan and, most recently, Ireland, B2M are now embarking on their first national tour. Their show Mamanta – meaning ‘friend’ in Tiwi – presents a unique performance, Tiwi style!  Accompanied by their new album, Mamanta will present a map of musical influences and explorations from around the world, while drawing on the rich local history of Tiwi Islands. Incorporating footage and imagery of contemporary Tiwi life, including church practice, football and influences from their art centres, Mamanta is a vibrant cultural experience told through a mix of dance, chants, song and film.

With such a strong tapestry of stories to draw from, including songlines that have never left the Tiwi Islands before, Mamanta will be unlike anything ever seen. If you’ve never had an opportunity to travel to the Tiwi Islands before, this show is sure to take you on an illuminating cultural journey.

Ickypedia – The Listies

After a completely sold out run in Melbourne’s Victorian Arts Centre, Australia’s favourite kidult comedians, The Listies, are bringing their best-smelling book Ickypedia: A Dictionary of Disgusting New Words to our stage! Ickypedia is a seriously silly show that answers all of life’s unimportant questions: How do you take a smellfie? What exactly are udderpants?* and what happens if you never-ever clean your room? With snot-monsters, bubble machines and toilet paper guns, it’s a mix of clowning, slapstick, and improvised chaos that the whole family will enjoy!

*Undies for cows

Richard Higgins and Matt Kelly are acclaimed kidult comedy duo The Listies. Forming in 2008 their show ‘More fun than a Wii’ went on to be the first kids show ever to be nominated for the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival best show award (the Barry). Since then they’ve toured from the Sydney Opera House to South Korea, from Edinburgh to Malaysia, and all over Straya. The Listies book ‘Ickypedia’ was published by Penguin in 2015 (with its sequel ‘Ickyfoodia’ released in 2017). Recent live work includes ‘Hamlet: Prince of Skidmark’ (Sydney Theatre Company, directed by Declan Greene), ‘The Listies Ruin Xmas’ (Sydney Opera House, Malthouse Theatre) and ‘6D: Twice as Good as 3D’ (Melbourne Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe).

John Williamson – The Butcherbird Tour on sale 2nd May!

Australian icon JOHN WILLIAMSON is back on the road with ‘The Butcherbird Tour’ which he will take across Australia over the next 12 months from coast to coast and sharing with his audiences his biggest hits and his latest musical contributions.

His new tour comes off the back of his forthcoming new album by the same name set for release in August 2018. The new album and tour continues to see John celebrate and pen the stories into song that he continues to be passionate about, the country, the people and the fight for what is right.

“I’m still having fun touring, I guess I will keep going till 2020 (my 50th year in the industry). My new album, ‘Butcherbird’ has come up amazingly considering I didn’t promise or plan another album of all new songs at all. Everyone is very excited and so am I! Its’s all about entertainment, just like my shows and I can’t wait to get on the road with this new show”, said John Williamson.

Have created some of Australia’s most recognised unofficial anthems, he is firmly cemented in the nation’s musical culture. His tributes to legends and unsung heroes and tender ballads have captured the spirit of the nation in song unlike any other.

You can call him what you want, Mallee Boy, True Blue or just plain Fair Dinkum; but there is no denying that after more than forty years in the music industry, John Williamson is truly an Australian icon.

Forever Diamond

FOREVER DIAMOND

An International Tribute to Music Legend Neil Diamond

 STARRING INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED

 PETER BYRNE

This International Production show is Endorsed by Music Legend Neil Diamond.

Direct From A Sold Out National Tour we now have the pleasure in inviting you to come and relive the magic and the magical hits of superstar Neil Diamond in a two hour concert spectacular – Back By Popular Demand!

Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and Grammy Award Winner Neil Diamond is a phenomenon who gives truly special and personal shows that legions of fans return to see again and again. A style that transcends music fads by consistently touching people of all ages and interests. The personal and magical interaction Diamond has on stage with an audience is legendary, breaking all box office records wherever he performs.

This is your opportunity to experience that same spontaneous display of energy and sensuality with the superb talents of Internationally Renowned Peter Byrne and his Award Winning International Production Forever Diamond, a show performing Neil Diamond’s greatest hits spanning over three decades, in an uncanny portrayal that has to be seen to be believed.

Come and hear all the great hits such as – Sweet Caroline, Song Sung Blue, I am I Said, Cherry Cherry, Beautiful Noise, Cracklin Rosie, Crunchy Cranola Suite, Holly Holy, Solitary Man & many many more

Peter Byrne’s capacity to recreate Neil Diamond to a standard which impressed Diamond’s pianist on his last Australian tour says it all. Tom Hensley gave Peter a resounding nod of approval after seeing his Diamond tribute.

Irishman Byrne’s singing voice is eerie in its likeness to the megastar and providing the impetus for Byrne’s performance is a relentless pursuit to raise his Diamond act to a level that the man himself would endorse.

This International Production show is Endorsed by Music Legend Neil Diamond.

But with Peter’s “Forever Diamond” show recognised as the very best tribute to Neil Diamond there rarely seems to be an empty seat and the audiences keep coming back for more. With all his songs, they sing along, clap and show all the emotions that are found in every tune.

“It remains to be seen if Byrne, once reaches perfection strives to out-do his idol, however, the day I see a better Diamond, will be the day the man himself appears on stage… “        (Adrain Revere…The Mercury)

This is a show not to be missed.

Dear Prudence 50th Anniversary starring Doug Parkinson plus special guest Colleen Hewett

Ben Maiorana Entertainment

 Presents

Doug Parkinson – “Dear Prudence The 50th Anniversary Tour”

Australia’s greatest soul voice Doug Parkinson celebrates 50 years of performing excellence with a new show Dear Prudence The 50th Anniversary Tour.

Hard to believe this multi award winning artist of soul and rock and box office hit musicals began his stellar career thrown into the musical deep end, only to emerge decades later as a household name, respected and admired by audiences and peers alike.

Doug Parkinson is highly regarded as a ’singer’s singer’, an artist capable of interpreting many genres of popular music. From smoky ballads to hard driving rock and all points in between, Doug Parkinson has it all covered and is considered one of Australia’s leading showmen and entertainers. ’A Rolled Gold Superstar’ to quote The Australian newspaper.

After two Sold Out Australian National Tours – “Dear Prudence The 50th Anniversary Tour” revisits the roller coaster ride that has been Doug Parkinson’s remarkable journey, punctuated by both happy and not so happy events that have shaped Parkinson the man, a survivor in a business notorious for its uncompromising demands both personal and professional.

The repertoire includes interpretations of hits from such legendary artists as Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, The Beatles and The Great American Song Book, just to name a few.

A highlight of this exciting new show is Doug Parkinson’s unique renditions of his own hit records The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, Without You, I’ll Be Around, and The Hungry Years.

But wait there’s more, as they say in the classics.

It’s also the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ White Album, considered universally as a masterpiece and the source of Doug Parkinson’s greatest recording triumph, the iconic and masterful Dear Prudence.

“I will be paying all due respect to the White Album, one of the greatest recordings in pop history, created by the greatest band in pop history. It is so exciting for me to revisit this amazing album and to present it live on stage. It will bring back memories of such a happy time for me as it will for audiences I’m sure.

“I will be putting my own stamp on it (as I did with Dear Prudence) and I truly believe the music has remained fresh and vital even to this day. I will be accompanied by eight of Australia’s most admired musicians and vocalists. It’s a big sound for a big show.”

Asked to describe “Dear Prudence The 50th Anniversary Tour”, Doug Parkinson describes it as a symphonic tour de force. “My life, my music.”

A glittering fusion of musical theatre, opera and dance.

From Broadway to Ballroom stars seasoned opera performers Liza Beamish and Lachlan Baker and the recently awarded 2015 World Dance Council Champions Emma and Rhett Salmon.

Cockfight

Two blokes in an office. One older, one younger.

A cross between The Office and a cage-fight, this game of comical one-upmanship builds to a moment of impact where everything is suspended. A flash of bared teeth, the desperation of needing to prove yourself vs the need to hold on to what you’ve got.

Cockfight explores the power play between men, the frailty of the ageing body and questions our culture’s desperate desire for achievement.

Skillfully enacting a full-throttle mash-up of extreme physical risk-taking, graceful movement and slow-mo fight sequences, this darkly humorous and surprisingly tender piece of dance theatre by newly formed Gold Coast/Berlin company The Farm, sees long-time collaborators Joshua Thomson and Gavin Webber reassess who is in charge.

Two performers on a stage. One older, one younger.

VOLUNTEER TO HELP SHOREBIRDS

Volunteers needed for an important citizen-science project to measure disturbance to migratory shorebirds caused by recreational activities on the Peel-Harvey Estuary this summer. The estuary provides vital habitat for shorebirds and it is important that recreational activities do not disturb their feeding and resting for their long journey north to breed. This project will help to understand how shorebirds interact with recreational activities on the estuary.

Please join BirdLife WA and Peel Harvey Catchment Council for a free workshop to learn about the project and learn/practice skills to identify shorebirds.

For more information or to register, please contact Vicki Stokes on 0409033126 or vicki.stokes@birdlife.org.au

The Best of British Concert - Bond, Bands and Banners!

What do Adele, DivaLicious, and Dame Edna Everage all have in common? Apart from being female and diva-esque, they have all performed in London, have lived or are living in London, are all fans of “Bond, James Bond!”

London-based Adele and Dame Edna will metaphorically “fly in” with the impersonating voice and personality of larger than life local talent, Dean Misdale who recently starred as Killer Queen in the Perth production of “We Will Rock You!”

He will be joined by comic sopranos Divalicious - the real deal being British-born as they take to the stage with their outstanding voices and DivaLicious antics along with Perth Lyric Chorale, the ICW Arts Orchestra led by Ashley Arbuckle and the Perth Highland Pipe Band.

Free flags and programs are included and the audience is encouraged to bring their patriotic voices and dress up in their best British costumes as they are transported into a musical memory lane of Great Britain (with a touch of the Aussie thrown in for good measure!).

Expect an afternoon of the very best of British music – from the evocative sounds of the Perth Highland Pipe Band, the whimsical songs of Gilbert and Sullivan, the Irish lilt of folk song, the popular British sing-a-long pub songs, to the drama and excitement of 007 and Rule Brittania.
