You may have noticed the Foreshore Bakery on Mandurah Terrace has been closed for a number of weeks. An exciting new bread shop called Juju Bread will be opening in August. The old Foreshore Bakery has an amazing history which Juju Bread will be continuing.
The original Renown Bakery was opened in the 1900s and was located on Mandurah Terrace near the Peninsula footbridge (north of Tuckey St). It’s location was easily recognised as being at the end of the Peninsula Footbridge. It became known as Muncie’s after Bill Muncie, in 1938.
Tony, of Juju Bread - bakes the bread himself. He and his business partner Tara plan to retain the original history of the bakery which has been open for more than 100 years. They want to take the plaster off the bakery wall and leave it exposed as a tribute to the bakery's history.
Tony started out making artisan bread in Brisbane and selling it at local markets.
'Ju Ju' means magic in French - Tony describes the process of making and creating bread as 'magical'. All of Tony's bread will be Artisan style made from a sourdough base. There will be several varieties of bread on offer from gourmet sourdough, rye and sandwich bread - just to a name a few! Juju will also be serving fantastic coffee.
