Shire of Murray President Cr. Wally Barret, its Councillors and staff are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our Federal Member of Parliament Mr Don Randall MP, Federal Member for Canning.
Cr. Barrett said that Don was a keen advocate of Shire of Murray projects and will be sorely missed.
Mr Randall was a major campaigner for the development of the Murray Leisure Centre’s Aquatic Centre completed in 2011. Another major project strongly supported by Mr Randall was the development of the Pinjarra Multipurpose Community Facility, home to the Pinjarra Bowling and Recreation Club and Peel Community Care.
“After seven years of tirelessly lobbying for the Pinjarra Multipurpose Community Facility it was with great spirits that Don officially opened the facility on Tuesday 30 June, 2015,” said Cr. Barrett.
The multimillion dollar redevelopment of the Murray Regional Equestrian Centre was another project of interest for Mr Randall, who recently instigated a special visit to the centre with Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Hon. Jamie Briggs MP. In June 2015 the first stage of this project was completed.
“Nothing was too much trouble for Don. Even at short notice Don always made time to meet and discuss issues with the Shire and always went out of his way to facilitate communication with Federal politicians.”
“For the past four years Shire Chief Executive Officer, Dean Unsworth and I have travelled to Canberra to meet with Cabinet members and various government departments. Only through Don’s networking ability and contacts could these meetings have taken place.”
“The Shire of Murray extends our sympathies to Don’s family and also the hard working and committed staff within his electoral office,” Cr. Barrett said.
