Tenders have closed for the $10M Coolup East Bridge Replacement and a tenderer is expected to be awarded by the State Government shortly.
Works on the traffic bridge situated on Coolup East Road, south of Pinjarra, are expected to commence in October 2015 and the bridge will be closed for 12 months until October 2016.
Funding for the run down structure was brought forward to commence replacement in October 2015 due to its age and condition.
Investigations are continuing to assess alternative opportunities for emergency vehicles to access the eastern catchment while the bridge is closed. These include access through an adjacent property with inspections being coordinated on private bridge structures and whether they can accommodate all emergency vehicles. Should access through the adjacent property be forthcoming, the details will be disseminated to emergency services by the Shire prior to the bridge closure.
Emergency service measures have been increased to accommodate for the bridge closure over the 12 month period. An all brigade response plan will be implemented in response to emergencies within the Coolup area and an additional fire truck has been requested from DFES to reside east of the Coolup Bridge. The additional fire truck will be manned by existing Coolup Brigade members located east of the bridge. Emergency water resources located east of the bridge works are also situated in Murray Hills and Meelon.
Members of the public will need to take an alternative route during the bridge closure.
The Shire of Murray will liaise with School Bus Services to determine alternative routes for school buses during the bridge closure.
Funding for the bridge replacement has been provided through the State Initiatives component of the Local Roads Program.
